Hit Pause on Skin Ageing

Maintaining youthful skin has always been one of our top priorities. But when it comes to premature skin ageing, taking the natural approach is still the best way to halt it in its tracks. Two such herbs that can help are black ginger and green tea.

Black ginger (Kaempferia parviflora), also known as Thai ginseng, is an herb indigenous to Southeast Asia, particularly Laos and Thailand, where it is commonly used as a folk medicine by the locals.

Many studies carried out on this remarkable herb have shown that it contains high levels of polymethoxyflavonoids (PMFs). PMFs play a major role in activating SIRT1, an effective anti-ageing factor that protects cellular DNA from further damage, thus delaying cell ageing and the formation of wrinkles and fine lines.

In fact, clinical trials have shown that the SIRT1-stimulating activity of PMFs is 5 times more potent than that of resveratrol, another powerful antioxidant!

In addition, black ginger is proven to prevent the appearance of dark spots, which is caused by a process called glycation. This irreversible process can turn your skin darker and duller, which may cause feelings of self-consciousness and your confidence levels to drop.

The PMFs in black ginger are strong inhibitors of the glycation process. Thus black ginger is capable of stopping dark spots from appearing, helping you to be more confident in your looks.

Black ginger can also help in reducing visceral fat. This is the fat stored around our internal organs such as our heart and liver, and the greater the amount of visceral fat, the higher our risk of contracting type-2 diabetes and heart disease. Several studies have indicated that visceral fat accumulation decreased significantly when black ginger is consumed.

This herb can be difficult to procure, so try out a black ginger supplement instead!
